Celebration of Handley Page

Friday, July 5th – 2pm View a recording of “Summer of the Handley Page” at the Hall. No charge. Donations appreciated. This will be repeated on Saturday the 6th, again at 2pm.
Saturday, July 6th is the date for Parrsboro’s annual ‘Old Fashion Saturday Night’ celebration on Main Street.
Plan to include a visit to each of the following:  1)  An information table on Main St.,  presented by volunteers from Parrsboro Legion Branch 45 and the Ottawa House Museum, offering brochures, airplane cookies and the opportunity to purchase a copy of a history entitled “Time Flies 1919 – 2019; Memories of the Handley Page ‘Atlantic’.
2)  Kerwin Davison’s replica of the front starboard 375 h.p. Rolls Royce engine from the Handley Page ‘Atlantic’ is on display at Parrsboro’s municipal site on Eastern Avenue.
3)  Ottawa House Museum’s display of Handley Page memorabilia which includes an original Handley Page propeller boss, the navigator’s seat from the ‘Atlantic’, photographs of the crew members and a 1/18th scale model of the ‘Atlantic’, which itself has a 7 foot wingspan.  Ottawa House is open daily from 10 am to 6 pm.
Sunday, July 7th at 2 pm,   ‘Weather permitting’ there will be a  4 plane flypast, over Partridge Island area, from the Debert Flight Centre, coordinated by Alan Farrell.  The Ottawa House Museum will be hosting an ‘Open House’ along with refreshments.  The afternoon will include a presentation, by Martin Langford, on the emergency landing of the Handley Page bomber in Parrsboro in 1919 and a discussion of the model of the ‘Atlantic’ displayed there.  Kerwin Davison will then speak about his reproduction of a full sized 375 h.p. Rolls Royce engine, which was one of four in the Handley Page bomber.  Steve Johnson will complete the afternoon’s program by reading newspaper articles which covered Parrsboro’s 1919, Handley Page experience.
