July 1^st – First run of the Springhill & Parrsboro Railway.  This is also the first surviving written record of the Parrsboro Cornet Band.  It was  mentioned in the newspaper article as being on hand to greet the train as it arrived.

In this first year of railroad operations to Parrsboro, there were 900 ships loaded with coal.
